Line editing & copyediting

Sentence-level editing for clarity, flow, consistency, grammar and style.

In short: copyediting corrects grammar, spelling, punctuation and consistency; line editing also improves clarity, rhythm and word choice. Both work sentence by sentence on a manuscript whose structure is already settled, using tracked changes you can accept or reject.

Who is it for?

Authors with a revised manuscript that's ready for polishing before formatting. If you still plan big changes to the plot or structure, start with developmental editing.

What's included

  • Tracked changes and comments in Word
  • Consistency of spelling, names, timelines and style (UK or US English, as you prefer)
  • Queries where meaning is unclear, rather than silent rewrites
  • A style sheet recording decisions, for your proofreader and future books

What you'll need to provide

  • The revised manuscript
  • Your preferred English (UK, US or other) and any house style
  • Character or term lists if you have them

How long it takes

Your written quote gives a confirmed delivery date. The time needed depends on the word count and how much editing the text needs, and on how quickly feedback comes back between rounds.

What's not included

Structural feedback, fact-checking beyond obvious inconsistencies, and proofreading the formatted pages (a separate, final step: see proofreading).

Price

Where packages are shown on this page, they are our standard prices. Prices depend on word count and how much editing the text needs; a short sample edit helps us quote accurately. For a standard package you can request an invoice: we confirm the scope first, then email the invoice, and nothing is charged online. For anything else, request a free quote that lists exactly what's included before you commit.

What you gain

  • Clearer prose

Tighter sentences that keep readers moving.

  • Consistency

Names, spellings, timelines and style checked throughout.

  • Tracked changes

You approve or reject every edit.

    Your review

You accept or reject changes and ask questions about anything that's unclear.

Questions

Do I need copyediting and proofreading?
They catch different things. Copyediting improves the text before layout; proofreading checks the final, formatted pages for remaining errors and layout problems. Many authors do both.
Can you edit in UK or US English?
Yes. Tell us which you use and we'll keep spelling and punctuation consistent with it.
Will editing change my voice?
It shouldn't. Edits aim for clarity and consistency, and anything that changes meaning is raised as a query for you to decide.

Choose a package to request an invoice, or ask for a quote if your project is outside its scope. Every project starts with written confirmation of scope, timing and payment.

Prices are set in USD. Other currencies are estimates using the European Central Bank reference rate of 26 October 2026. The final amount and payment currency are confirmed on your invoice; showing a currency here doesn't mean payment can already be made in it.
