EPUB & Kindle preparation

Convert, validate and fix ebook files for upload to major ebook stores.

In short: this is a repair and conversion service for ebook files that already exist. We fix files made in other tools or by other designers that fail validation, are rejected by a store, or display badly on some devices. To have an ebook built from your manuscript, see ebook formatting.

Who is it for?

  • Authors whose EPUB fails EPUBCheck or a retailer's upload checks
  • Books with broken contents pages, odd spacing, missing fonts or images that won't scale
  • Older ebook files that need converting to a currently accepted format

What's included

  • Review of your current file and the errors or problems you've seen
  • Fixes to the file's code, styles, navigation and images
  • Validation with EPUBCheck, the official W3C conformance checker
  • Preview checks in common reading apps
  • Notes on any limits of specific stores or devices

What you'll need to provide

  • The ebook file (EPUB or the source file it was made from)
  • Any error messages from the store
  • The original manuscript if text corrections are needed

How long it takes

Your written quote gives a confirmed delivery date. The time needed depends on how many problems the file has and whether it's quicker to rebuild than repair, and on how quickly feedback comes back between rounds.

What's not included

Editing, rewriting and redesigning the book. If a file would take longer to repair than to rebuild, we'll tell you and quote ebook formatting instead.

Price

Where packages are shown on this page, they are our standard prices. Prices depend on what's wrong with the current file, the book's length and how many images or special elements it has. For a standard package you can request an invoice: we confirm the scope first, then email the invoice, and nothing is charged online. For anything else, request a free quote that lists exactly what's included before you commit.

What you gain

  • Validated files

    Checked with industry validation tools.

  • Fix display issues

    Images, fonts and spacing corrected.

  • Clear guidance

Questions

What's the difference between this and ebook formatting?
Ebook formatting builds a new ebook from your manuscript. This service repairs or converts an ebook file you already have.
Does Amazon still accept MOBI files?
No. Amazon KDP stopped accepting MOBI files for new ebooks in March 2025. EPUB, DOCX and KPF are the formats KDP recommends.
What is EPUBCheck?
EPUBCheck is the W3C's official tool for checking that an EPUB file meets the EPUB standard. Some stores, including Apple Books, require files to pass it.
