The Divide Between Shadow and Light: Black-and-White Cover

A front cover for The Divide Between Shadow and Light: two facing profiles, one black and one white, split by a burst of ink splatter beneath a bold title that is itself divided into dark and light.

Scope
Front cover design
Book cover of The Divide Between Shadow and Light: two women's profiles facing away from each other, one black and one white, divided by black ink splatter, with the title in large serif capitals and the tagline “Two souls. One fracture. One destiny written in black and white.”

Our approach

Two profiles face away from each other, one rendered in deep black and the other in pale white, with a jagged spray of ink and fine branch-like cracks marking the line between them. The design keeps almost entirely to black, white and grey, so the contrast itself carries the cover's theme.

The title is set in tall serif capitals: “Shadow” is printed in black and “Light” in white with a soft shadow, repeating the split in the image. The tagline, “Two souls. One fracture. One destiny written in black and white.”, sits in small capitals above a diamond divider and the name in widely spaced capitals.
