Donovan's Big Dream: Picture Book Layout and Typography for KDP Print

Picture-book spread layout and typography for KDP print: the story of Donovan, a boy who dreams of flying a plane, with text set into full-bleed illustrations so every line stays readable.

Scope
Interior layout, typography and KDP print preparation
An open picture book spread: on the left, a boy with a piggy bank looking up at a plane in a blue sky over a city by a river; on the right, the same boy lying on his bed with his chin in his hands beside a “Dream, Fly, Achieve” poster, with the story text set in navy across both pages.

Our approach

Each page is a full-bleed illustration, so the type is placed in the calmest part of the art: across the open sky on the left-hand page, where Donovan looks up at a plane with his piggy bank, and against the bedroom wall on the right, where he rests his chin in his hands beside a “Dream, Fly, Achieve” poster.

The text is set in a friendly, rounded sans serif in dark navy, broken into short lines for reading aloud, with key phrases (“BIG”, “FLY THE AIRPLANE”) picked out in bold capitals. The pages were prepared for KDP print.
